Let explore the common myths associated with the Google link Command-

Myth #1 – Google Link Command tells exact no. of back links

Whoever said that must been drinking. Google link command doesn’t even gives any close figure let along the actual no. of back links. In fact Google itself says that it just shows a sample of back links with Google link command.  They also say that if they start showing all the back links for a website, it is highly probable that competitors can use that data to actually outsmart the website those are ranking on top.

How can I verify this ?

First check your back links with Google link command and then check the back-links from Google webmaster. You will see a vast difference in the figures for sure.

Using the same command I got no back-links for my own website ! [Yes, we changed a little, but not that much]

Now when the check the same in Google webmasters—->Traffic—–>Links to your site, the equation is all together different. Google webmaster shows that I have close to 27,000 back links. Wow, such a marginal difference !

Myth #2 – Google Link Command shows important Links

Some people strongly believe that Google Link Command shows links that are important or links with high PR. This is all wrong. The back-links that Google shows are the one that Google robots discover randomly while crawling the page.

Myth #3 – Google Link Command shows links in order

As said above, Google robots crawl the pages and the link randomly. So the links that they display are random and without any order. It is quite possible that Google link command is showing you the low quality links on the top and high quality links on page 2 or 3. This is purely coincidental. The chances are high that if you check the same on different machine, you will see the links in different order.

Myth #4 – Google Link Command shows up to date back-link

Majority of SEO professionals working with top seo firms still believe that Google link command is updated regularly and will show them updated links that they create. Unfortunately this is the biggest blunder they make. Assuming that Google link command shows updated back links, they often tend to worry about the no. of back links not increasing for the website they are working on continuously.

CONCLUSION:

Obviously the major blame goes to the Google for not sharing much information about this command and not being clear about it at all. The best Google can do is to simply do away with this command since it is of no value at all to SEO professionals or webmasters.
